History of Engage Thru Tech

Engage Thru Tech (aka Dovetail Associates, LLC) has been around for over 20 years. It was started to give Steve a chance to continue to work even though he was declared disabled in the early 2000's. Steve was the technology advisor for Engage Thru Tech and Ruth ran the business.

By 2016 the company had over 30, 15" Lenovo T60 Laptops running Windows XP and Engage Thru Tech was focusing on teaching Girl Scouts about technology and helping them grow by helping them complete their various Programs (called Journeys)  in days rather than the typical months to years. The Girl Scouts were thus able to complete more Journeys in their time as a Girl Scout and have more opportunity to grow.

In 2016 the 32-bit Lenovo T60s were replaced by 20 64 bit-Asus 17" Republic of Gamer Gaming Laptops with 2D animation, 3D animation, motion capture suits, 360 cameras VR goggles, and game development. The business expanded to helping hundreds of Girl Scouts a year. Although Engage Thru Tech focused on Girl Scouts, the business also provided workshops to other boys and girls of all ages, mostly through summer camps.

When the pandemic hit, so was the business. Parents now being at home, took over the journeys. But, Engage Thru Tech expanded and Ruth took the computers to the Special Needs Population. Now Engage Thru Tech also supports adults with special needs.

Technology Development is a new branch of Engage Thru Tech

Engage Thru Tech is now looking at expanding further. On October 14, 2025 Microsoft will discontinue support of Windows 10. In order for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 they will have to throw away their old computers for Windows 11 depends several things that Windows 10 doesn't require to run on your computer.

  • Windows 11 depends upon security hardware built into new computers systems that is not available on older systems,

  • Windows 11 requires an 8th generation processor or newer,

  • Windows 11 also requires a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).  It is a specification that defines the architecture of the platform firmware used for booting the computer hardware and its interface for interaction with the operating system. UEFI replaces the BIOS, which was the traditional firmware used for IBM PC compatible computers.

According to a survey of 100,000 computer users in January of 2023, 40% of them responded, saying that they could not upgrade their Windows 10 operating system. There are over 900,000 households in King County Washington, where Engage Thru Tech's office is. If each household had only one computer that would be over 360,000 computers that would have to be trashed. Yes, you could still use your computer, but that would be like Ford saying, "We no longer support the F150 pickup." So, if you needed to have the truck repaired, you're out of luck. If you need an operational vehicle you have to eventually buy a new truck. With Windows 10, you'll become vulnerable because you will no longer get security updates. Can you afford to do your finances on a computer that is vulnerable?

So how would you feel if Ford suddenly said that they no provided parts for your Truck and everyone else followed suit with not supporting fixing it when it broke? Yeah, I know, a computer isn't a $60,000 truck. But wait, isn't everything going electric? How soon will it be till auto manufacturers decide not to support gas vehicles? I think that is a topic for another story, but even though a computer system is a lot less expensive, look at your savings account. Eighty-percent of the average American earning $100,000 or less have less than $500 to their name: They're living from paycheck to paycheck. Or, a little more pessimistically, one paycheck away from being homeless. Can you really afford to have someone tell you to throw something away that you depend upon heavily for your daily living and give you no choice?

We have twenty gaming computers, plus two support computers. None of them can be upgraded to Windows 11. That's more than $50,000 worth of computing equipment and software that has to be tossed. Or do they?

I don't like the idea of being told what to do. I especially don't like being told that I have to throw away all that equipment and replace it if I want to stay in business. Further, I don't like the idea of tossing 360,000 computer into the computer graveyard. That is ecologically unsound.

The Technology Development arm of Engage Thru Tech was started this year to find and implement an alternative to throwing away its computers. I have found an alternative. We are going to start with upgrading ours, and if there is a market for it, we will help others. If you have a link to this page, you are obviously interested. Thank-you for being here.

Here are the instructions:

  1. Click on the link below "Click here to download file."

  2. Download the app to your computer.

  3. Windows will ask you if you trust the source and

  4. Let your computer scan the app.

  5. Double-click on the app to run it.

  6. When run, the app will generate a text file in the downloads directory

  7. As the app the runs, it saves information about your system to variables and outputs the values of the variables to the screen so you can see what is going to be placed in the .txt file.

  8. You can hit Ctrl-break at any time during the time the screen is being updated and the app will stop. The file will not be generated.

  9. Once all your system data is saved to variables, the app will ask you if you want to save the data or quit.

  10. Review the data on the screen. You will be sending this file to Engage Thru Tech. You should decide you are okay sending it.

  11. If you decided you want to make file, click on yes, and the file will be generated in the downloads directory. It is a text file so you can open it with any text editor or word processor to view it.

  12. Review the file if you would like to confirm that it matches the screen view and if you are happy with it you can send it Technology Development at Engage Thru Tech.

  13. The next step in the process is to schedule a meeting with us, where can give you more information based on your file about upgrade options instead of buying a new Windows  11 Computer.

  14. At this time  a chart will be emailed to you showing the process of how a computer is upgraded to further solidify your feeling about choosing a "Green" option to maintaining a positive computer experience over the next several years.

  15. Our goal at Engage Thru Tech / Technology Development is to help you:

  • quickly identify your needs,

  • quickly identify the alternative to Windows that best fits those needs

  • quickly identify an upgrade path

  • quickly get you upgraded so you are not out a computer for long

  • provide you support as you learn your new system

  • do it inexpensively

So, go ahead and let's your journey by clicking "download" and then on the latest PS5_GetSystemInfo.exe file.

Thank-you for supporting the future of our planet.
